Copan Ruinas – Honduras

Wanna know something mystical? Something out of an Indiana Jones movie? Picture this:- ancient ruins, sturdy structures, beautiful Mayan women flaunting around the kingdom.. that’s the picture came to my mind when I set foot in this magical place.

We took the chicken bus from lake Yojoa to Copan Ruinas. It took us eight hours because of the road constructions. That was though, a fun ride. People were so kind. We had full conversations with locals in broken Spanish. One of the local women in the bus bought us a bagged water (they sell bagged water)

The town of Copan Ruinas is beautiful. There’s a food market opens in the evenings, where you can eat delicious tacos. We stayed with a local family, th ey had an adjacent rooms built for the purpose of renting out to tourists. (Local hotel) – Hotel Cuna Maya. Clean, beautiful place. The hostess was very kind. She corrected my very limited Spanish ever so patiently.

Now Copan Ruinas – $15 for entrance. You can opt for a travel guide or not. There’s notices to be careful as muggings have happened inside the ruins. There are two sections in the ruins. It’ll take two days to cover it all.
There’s this eerie silence, quiet in this place. It pulls you in, and makes you wonder what it must have been all those years ago in Mayan civilization. There is this spiritual connection in this beautiful place.
The most majestic being in this place? La Guara Roja a.k.a Scarlet Macaw! The national bird of Honduras. They are magnificent. The whole world stands still when come face to face with these beautiful birds. They would fly over your head like a rainbow. Man, weren’t they noisy though!!

So most important question – will we return back? IN A HEARTBEAT
