One night at the luxurious El Salvador International

We landed at El Salvador International around 7pm onboard a fantastic Avianca flight, our next flight to Rotan Island, Honduras at 8am the Next day. So what to do? Spend 30 bucks to catch an hour long cab ride to the city and back in the AM? Nahh… our plan was to camp out in the airport.

By the time we got out of immigration it was 7:45 and the airport, including all the shops, closes at 8pm. Race for beer and food! at 8:05 we sqeezed through the closing doors to a shop with everything we need for the overnighter. We are all set.

First thing we noticed was the awesome fragrance of the airport, from all the perfume shops. It is a beautiful airport. There were 3-4 other folks doing what we were doing (camping out at the airport). We settled in in a corner opened up a brew and had our sandwiches was in bed (small blanket on the floor) by 12

Ok.. this is when the fun began..

About an hour into our sleep, we were woken up by immigration. The officer took both our passports and just vanished, so here we were waiting impatiently, to get them back.  He was back in about 20 minutes, asked to get up and we were sent through the scanners, thoroughly checked our camera bag (too many pockets), along with another passenger spending overnight.

And  we were taken to a secure area. Ok this is good a secure area, back to sleep. Only to be woken up again at 03:30 in the morning by immigration to get our passports. Again she took off with them, for about 15 minutes which felt like an eternity.

They were very friendly officers asking us if we need to eat or drink, one officer fetched us and the other overnighters some Pepsi cans from there office (all shops are closed). 45 mins later we are back at sleep. .

Up at 6 am, alive and well. On to our connecting flight.
